BBQ Throwdown - 134

Picture this: A cold drink in hand and you and a bunch of your friends jamming out in your backyard to a private performance by Outer Banks super-popular country/rock band Jonny Waters & Company. Your friends are having a great time and you are the coolest person on the planet for inviting them… this could happen to you!

“I went to a friend’s party this past summer and when I got to their place I could hear they had live music. I went around to the yard where the partygoers were all dancing and enjoying Jonny Waters and his band doing their thing, and I thought ‘How cool is this?!’ Knowing that I wanted to book Jonny again for our annual BBQ event during Taste of the Beach (2015) I got the idea that we could try to do something like this,” said Marketing Manager for OBRA, Audrey Webster.

So the idea was born, and with the graciousness of Jonny himself, the Outer Banks Restaurant Association has put together this opportunity for you to win your very own live concert.

“I approached Jonny about it, and he was on board from that moment. He didn’t hesitate a bit and was happy to help…and that’s just how cool he is. Besides being wildly talented, he’s an awesome guy!” said Webster, “and anyone lucky enough to win this will get to know that.”

By attending the Joe Lamb, Jr. Outer Banks BBQ & WINGS Showdown on Friday, March 20th you will automatically be entered to win. And if you want to increase your odds, you can buy additional chances to win for just $10 each there.  These $10 chances will also be available at the Shure Foods Succulent Crab Kickoff Party on Wednesday, March 18th.  The lucky winner will be drawn at the Showdown on Friday and you don’t need to be present to win.  “We will have your name and phone to contact you if you are the winner,” said Webster.

It’s all to benefit and create awareness for the Outer Banks Restaurant Association’s Culinary Scholarship Fund. “We created this scholarship several years ago, and in the past few it has really taken hold, with grants being awards to worthy students from Dare and Currituck Counties. Those that are pursuing advanced degrees in the culinary arts, culinary sciences or nutritional sciences are eligible to apply, and in the past three years we’ve been able to be more consistent with our grants from the sheer fact of having more applicants,” said OBRA President Ben Sproul. “Our goal is to continue to build this Scholarship and increase the amount of grants we are able to award.  Bringing awareness to this program by way of publicity like the Jonny Waters concert giveaway is crucial to building that momentum,” said Sproul. You can see the details of the fund and the winners of the last few years on the OBX Taste of the Beach website.

OBRA will donate $500 from the Showdown to kick it off, and upon hearing about this, the title sponsor Joe Lamb Jr. & Associates, generously decided to match that with a $500 donation of their own. “When I shared this idea with Jodie Herman of Joe Lamb, Jr., she immediately talked it over with President and General Manager, Dan Hardy, and called me right back to tell me they wanted to donate too. I was thrilled, and I’m overwhelmed at their generosity, but I’m also not surprised.  The folks at Joe Lamb, Jr. have been awesome to work with for the last two years and their enthusiasm for this event is never ending.  They’re not just the title sponsor in name, they really go the extra mile to promote and contribute to this event each year. For an event coordinator like myself, this dedication and partnership is invaluable, and OBRA appreciates it just so much,” said Webster.

If you would like to be entered to win this concert giveaway, buy tickets in advance or at the door Friday, March 20th at the Joe Lamb Jr. Outer Banks BBQ & WINGS Showdown, or come to the free kickoff party on Wednesday the 18th and buy your raffle tickets there.

(There are just a couple of stipulations on redeeming the concert prize. The winner has to coordinate and be tolerant with Jonny’s booking schedule, and it’s a 2-hour local (Dare or Currituck Counties, within reason) performance that is included.  If the winner wants a longer booking, they can coordinate and compensate Jonny directly for those and any other special arrangements like travel, etc.)
