A truly unique event for the oyster enthusiast, lover of the coast, or anyone wanting to learn about perhaps the most sustainable protein source on the planet. The resurgence of oyster bars is happening across the country and the number of oyster farms to provide the supply growing exponentially. North Carolina is poised to become the “Napa Valley Of Oysters” due to its immense coast and estuary systems, and the number of farms in the Outer Banks alone has grown five fold in recent years.

We offer two sessions for this event, with a capacity of six guests per, one starting at 9am and another at 10am. Both sessions will start at Wanchese office of the North Carolina Coastal Federation (NCCF), where guests will learn about oysters from marine scientists, and see various growing systems at their “petting zoo” oyster farm. Guest will then travel to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center to meet charter fisherman and oyster farmer Bobby Smith, who will take you on a short boat ride out to his ‘lease’ to see a working oyster farm – Savage Inlet Oysters.

Upon returning, guests are free to enjoy sampling of oysters from three local oyster bars that feature a variety of oysters at their own pace:

Coastal Provisions Oyster Bar & Wine Bar Cafe in Southern Shores

Ticket price includes tours at both NCCF office and Savage Inlet Oyster Farm, and a half dozen oyster tasting per guest per restaurant. Additional purchases may be made. Transportation between locations will not be provided (only boat ride to oyster farm from Oregon Inlet Fishing Center). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the NCCF’s oyster reef and living shoreline restoration efforts.
